To cease man’s independence, privacy and self-respect is a heinous crime. To commit him to slavery and use him to
one’s favours and advantage in fulfilling the desires is even more horrendous. Such heartless barbaric clans did
exist in this world and were predominantly from the European countries. Beginning of the 16th century has the
recorded history of human slavery which lasted through the 19th century. These European countries invaded other
countries and established their colonies. They swindled the riches of these nations for their own personal gains.
They did not stop there, They subjugated the local population to enormous misery and hardship. They were ill-treated
into submission by force and torture.
One such classic character was Oroonoko. The colonisers extracted all the favours from him only to torture him and
put him to death. The pathetic life of Oroonoko was seen by Aphra Behn, who recorded it in the form of a novel. The
